Choosing Between Fresnel, Profile and PAR Formats

Fresnels deliver soft-edged wash light with adjustable beam spread, making them the standard choice for general stage wash and front-of-house positions. Profiles offer hard-edged beams with precise shuttering and gobo projection, used where you need tight control of where light falls. PARs provide punchy, directional light in a compact housing, ideal for side lighting, back light and colour washes.

What Works Well With Static Fixtures

Static lights rely on external control. You'll need a lighting console or app-based DMX controller, plus DMX cabling or wireless DMX distribution to address and operate them. Beam shaping accessories such as barndoors, snoots and colour frames extend the versatility of fresnels and PARs. Cyclorama floods and linebaars benefit from truss or lighting bars mounted at the appropriate height and angle.

  • Pinspots and blinders suit accent work, mirror ball effects and audience blinders
  • Follow spots require a dedicated operator and clear sightline to the stage
  • Pendants and architectural profiles integrate into fixed installations where traditional stage formats don't fit

CKC Lighting and GLP in This Category

CKC Lighting supplies the majority of fixtures here, covering fresnels in tungsten and full-colour variants, profiles from compact 40-watt models to the 500-watt IP-rated version, and linebaars in three lengths. GLP contributes the Nexus architectural family and compact X5 and TW Dot formats, which bridge the gap between static and moving light applications. Both brands are distributed in Australia and New Zealand by StageKraft.
